Hey guys,
We are quickly approaching the weekend of the Southern Regional Qualifier. It will be the first weekend f October. October 3,4,5. You may arrive Friday night at the earliest, and the event ends sometime around 12-2 on Sunday.
The Southern Regional Qualifier is co-hosted by TAMU Wake and UNT Wake. The tournament will be held at the SETx lake in Beaumont, Texas. The lake is privately owned by Don, a great guy who always helps out plenty! Don allows everyone to stay out at the lake, and enjoy all of his property. SETx may be out of the way, being in Beaumont, but it is one of the best wakeboarding destinations in Texas. We are pretty much at our own discretion out there, however we ask that everyone who attends exercise good judgment and have lots of responsible fun.
We will be camping on the property, and everyone else is welcome to as well, but be prepared to bring all of your own amenities, i.e. tents, air mattresses and pillows, as nothing will be provided for you. If you do not own this stuff, I am sure that there will be someone in the club that can help you out! So make arraignments asap! You can also stay in one of the many local hotels/motels, which some may prefer as there is no shower on site that is available to us. In the past Don has allowed use of his shower, in his camper, but I strongly urge you, and kindly ask that you refrain from asking him for that favor, as he is too nice to say no, and he puts himself out more that need be as it is!
If you stay off site, you will not be able to enjoy all of the festivities that go on into the night, so please keep that in mind.
We always offer teeshirts, a raffle, contest, lunch, and great riding to watch, however the spectating is the only aforementioned item that is free, so please remember to bring some spare cash for the other four! There are gas stations nearby, as well as Beaumont a few minutes down the road, so you shouldn't have too many problems if you forget something.
Also remember that although this should be a great, fun and problem free weekend, there will still be a few rules, that are mostly comprised of common sense. If you are asked to do anything by someone, then please comply and help out. If you are spectating in the water and you are asked to get out of the way, or the water, please comply. If you see someone doing something that you believe would upset Don, the owner, or is unsafe or overly irresponsible, please alert Leo or myself, or Don so that the matter is handled promptly. If you are asked to do anything, like I said, please do as you are told, and if there is a problem or you have a problem with someones demands, please excuse yourself and come talk to Leo or myself and we will handle the situation.
We have not handle many problems in the past and we hope that that is the same this year. Please remember that we all represent TAMU Wake, TAMU, ourselves and our teammates.
As far as food goes, there should be lunch on Saturday, that will cost some where in the $5 range and will more than likely get you a burger some chips and a drink, as far as the rest of the weekend goes, you should be prepared with drinks and food for yourselves, however as I stated early you can always run into town, but you risk missing some of the action on the water!
During the day, we do not allow drinking on the premises, as it is not possible to tell who will be riding and who is not, and this is a insurance matter and therefore an uncompromisable and undebatable issue. Also anyone with drugs or drug paraphernalia will be asked to leave immediately as we in no way condone such conduct. Of course you choices are yours to make and we will not judge, but we will not tolerate it either. Please understand that these measures are to protect all the parties involved in making this event a success as well as keeping all the riders safe.
Please be sure that you have the following items accounted for yourself, if you wish to attend:
>sleeping quaters
>sleeping bag
>pillow
>Suntan lotion
>Bugspray (there may be a lot of post Ike bugs)
>Drinks (you will need water as well)
>Food
>Spare cash (for teeshirts, raffle, lunch and contests)
>Camera (if you like)
>sunglasses
>hats
>clothing for the entire weekend
>a ride there and back (do not assume there will be a ride back, arrange it ahead of time)
>suitable footwear
>water float (if you wish to spectate from the water)
>Family and Friends (this is an open invitation and free to spectators, however at night there will be drinking and partying which you should consider if your parents plan on attending)
Please add to this list if I have missed anything.
As I mentioned earlier you may need money for contests. We may host a slider contest or double up contest if time permits. To enter these contest you must pay a separate fee on your own, and have your own gear present. For the slider contest you must furnish a helmet, usually you can borrow one, but be prepared just in case that is not possible!
I want to quickly add that this should not sound like a lecture, but rather a reminder of what you should expect and a general guideline to the behavior that we hope our team will exhibit. Like I said before we have not really had too many problems in the past, but it would be a shame to have something happen and not be able to tell someone that there was fair warning. Don, Leo, myself and all the others that will be running the tournament do not want to have to babysit anyone nor do we believe that it will be necessary.
For those of you have been to events in the past, especially SETx events, please feel free to post any helpful tips that I have forgotten as I am sure there are plenty! If you would like to help in anyway, please let us know as there is always plenty to do, and one or two people can't do it alone. We have had help in the past and we always appreciate it. Whether you are riding or not, we as a club host this event, and therefore it is up to us to make it a success!
Leo and I know how cool this club is and we are always excited when an event like this is around the corner, becuase lets face the facts! TAMU Wake kicks ass and takes names later! So lets get ready to have fun and grab the Southern Regional Qualifier's number one seed to Nationals '09!!!
